I am a K-4 teacher with the Vancouver School District (formerly teaching in Surrey Schools). With 30+ years of experience and a bunch of improvements along the way, I still have so much more to learn. This blog is a way to help me process and share all that I'm discovering on my quest to be the best educator I can be.
Karen is a lifelong learner, author, and educator. In the past she was transforming education by connecting her students with the world using Twitter, blogs, and video conferencing. Karen has a student choice-driven hands-on approach to teaching which includes inquiry, project based, and maker mindset. Karen is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Innovator, ISTE Award recipient, and 5x Ironman finisher. In 2016 Karen published Innovate with iPad: Lessons to Transform Learning as a way to help educators see how technology can help students create their own content instead of consuming someone else’s. These days things are a bit different for Karen as she explores life in a new district. Professionally she's begun experimenting with Peter Liljedahl's Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics. I will try to begin once again sharing my learning with others.
