Why do I blog?

I blog because it helps clear up the traffic jam of ideas inside of my head.  Why do you blog?

  1. Karen,

I love your shortest blog post ever! I blog for similar reasons.

Sometimes there is just no one with skin on close enough to talk about the things going on in my head, so I blog. Then, joyfully, there is often someone far away who understands and can help me shed even more light on the traffic jam ideas in my head.

Thanks for sharing, Karen. And now my comment is longer than your blog post! :)

    1. Thanks Denise. I really love blogging. While I've blogged in the past for personal reasons - like my year living in Australia, and my journey to my first ironman in 2004 - I have never blogged professionally. I wish I had started this professional blog years ago. I wonder, in my 20 years of teaching, how many cars I've left inside my brain stranded because I didn't rescue them by writing things down. Hmm.

I also love that when I share my thinking people take the time to read and respond to it. Often they inspire me to think in a different way, or sometimes it's just nice to know that others think like I do and that more specifically I'm not alone in my thinking. Blogging helps me realize that there ARE people like me out there. I'm not the only one who...

    1. Love it! I love to share my thinking too and like I said in response to Denise I love it when people connect to my thinking and/or push my thinking.

  4. I love the analogy! I blog because I love to share. It also helps me make my way around perceived stop signs in my mind and give excellent ideas another lane travel in down the highway.

    1. This post was originally written as a tweet as I was struggling to get my ideas down about my goals for next year. In the frustration I realized that I really love to blog and I am so glad to be writing regularly again. I have way too much running around in my mind and I love being able to document my thinking, and share it with the world. As the blog title suggests its "Learning and Sharing with Ms. L". Thanks for sharing too Hugh. K

  5. All of the above! Organizing my ideas, focusing on ONE thing, and keeping track of ideas for Genius Hour!

    1. I love the focusing on ONE thing point. That is huge although sometimes I think about writing a post titled "Things Spinning in My Head This Week". If only I could just sit the computer on top of my head and let the blog posts write them selves. :-)

  6. I need to reflect on my own practice and thinking. Blogging forces me to slow down and analyze that a bit. I don't always express it as nicely as I would like but it's really about the reflection for me.

    1. I totally agree. I love the act of reflecting on what I'm doing or thinking about. Sometimes I feel like my reflections are so simple in relation to so many of the blogs I read but that is where I am right now. I can only get better by continuing on with this blogging journey. Thanks for sharing. :-)

  7. I know what you mean. Just recently started teaching and blogging but it helps me reflect on my teaching and organize the mess in my head. If I don't write something down, it is gone!

    1. Blogging is great. I find sometimes when I'm short on time but have something I want to blog about I create a blog post with a title only, then save it to draft. Sometimes I make my way back to those empty titled blog posts other times I don't and that's okay too.

  9. I blog because I like to work ideas out, and I find it easier when I write them down. I like the notion that one's blog is a gym for the brain. And I do like to see my writing improve and blogging has definitely made it better.

    1. Thanks Chris. I love all of your reasons for blogging. As for the improvement in writing, I would agree that I too think I am getting better as a writer because of the blogs I maintain. Happy Blogging!
